Our Story

Having gotten immense success in last year's iGEM Jamboree, we feel the need to outdo ourselves from last year.

Experience our Journey

  • Boston November 2016
We had wrapped up the 2016 iGEM season with 3 awards: Best Wiki, Best Presentation and Best Poster! Basing our research on making Mars breathable
  • Problems January 2017
Issues arise, and we need a new team as those previously on UrbanTundra have switched over to the UAlberta iGEM team.
  • Recruitment April 2017
A new team has been made, ready to go! Three high schools: Old Scona Academic, Archbishop MacDonald, Harry Ainlay (insert logos)
  • NDC Jamboree June 2017
Friendship! First go-away trip; bonded as a team. Allowed us to know of our problems with presentation and project. We were also able to learn more about each other with our AirBnB meetings, and our occasional Pho outings! The start of something new!
  • Media and Engineering Mayhem! July 2017
The month of July was one filled with progress in the media/fundraising team, as well as the engineering team with their hydroponics! We came out with a new segment to introduce our team members called #HumansofUrbanTundra for our social media handles on Twitter , Instagram, and Facebook . The media team goal was established: to create a bridge between the public and our team. Meanwhile, the engineering team was busy working on their hydroponics project!
  • Bottle Drive and Silent Auction! August 2017
We were super successful in getting bottles for our bottle drive, our first bottle drive raising over $1000! This could not have been done without the support of not only our communities, but of the local businesses around the Edmonton area, which are all noted on our sponsors page! Thank you all!
  • aGEM September 2017
We returned with a new presentation, with new presenters and a new motivation to do better the second time around! Very lucky to have been able to compete in another event such as this one, as we were able to gain more insight on our project - just in time for iGEM!
  • Elementary Presentation October 2017
Presented at George P. Nicolson Elementary; lots of support!
