We succeeded in culturing B. Xyphilus by S. Cerevisiae to establish the system of inducing RNAi by feeding. In addition, we transformed the plasmid coding hairpin-dsRNA to S. Cerevisiae, fed it to B. Xyphilus, and observed it.

■General support

  • Dr. Makoto Kitabatake (Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University) helped us all through our project, provided us with a laboratory, and gave us professional advice as well as training us on the experiment of S. Cerevisiae and RNA.
  •
  • Dr. Knut Woltjen (Center of iPS Cell Research and Application, Kyoto University) helped us all through our project, and gave us professional advice.

■Project support and advice

  • Dr. Yuko Takeuchi (Department of Agriculture, Kyoto University) provided us with B. Xylophilus, trained us on culturing and observing it ,and also provided us with a laboratory.

  • Mr. Suguru Tanaka (Department of Agriculture, the University of Tokyo) trained us on culturing B. Xylophilus, and gave us a professional advice on it.

■Fundraising help and advice

  • COSMO BIO provided us with reagents and kits, free of charge.

  • Promega Corporation provided us with regents and kits, free of charge.

■Lab support

  • Prof. Teiji Sota (Department of Science, Kyoto University) helped us with the usage of laboratory, provided us with a laboratory ,and let us use -80℃ freezer and Nanodrop of his laboratory.

  • Dr. Tomoo Shimada (Department of Science, Kyoto University) provided us with a laboratory.

  • Dr. Shuhei Nasuda (Department of Science, Kyoto University) provided us with a laboratory and a meeting room and provided us with some regents.

■Difficult technique support

  • Dr. Ichiro Taniguchi (Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University) provided us with the background of RNA nuclear export and helped us with the microinjection RI-labeled RNA into xenopus oocytes and the analysis. In addition, he provided us with DNA coding Rev protein.
  •
  • Dr. Ryusuke Tadokoro (Department of Science, Kyoto University) helped us with the usage of a confocal microscopy.

■Wiki support and presentation coaching

  • James-Alan Hejna (Graduated School of Biostudies, Kyoto University) gave us valuable advice about our presentation and wiki.

■Human Practice support

  • Kyoto city (Mr. Takubo )

  • Kyoto city forestry cooperative

  • Kyoto-Osaka forestry cooperative (Mr. Onishi, Mr. Enotani)

■Thanks and acknowledgements for all other people involved in helping make a successful iGEM team

  • Prof. Keiko Kuroda (Department of Agriculture, Kobe University) provided us with a background on the matter of the pine disease in Japan.

  • Dr. Taisei Kikuchi (Department of Medicine, Miyazaki University) suggested the possibility of culturing B. Xylophilus with S. Cerevisiae.

  • Mr. Shuhei Yamada (Underraduate school of Engineering, Kyoto University) helped us with revising our English in wiki and presentation.

  • Dr. Makoto Kashima (Department of Agriculture, Ryukoku University) helped us all through our projects.

  • Mr. Fumitaka Hashiya (Undergaduate School of Science, Kyoto University) helped us with the registration and storage of reagents.

  • Mr. Tomoki Uchino (Undergraduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University) trained us on the cloning experiment.
