Mentors

Great mentorship is the key to success in iGEM. Mentors will be expected to meet online with their teams at least once per month to guide them through topics such as experimental design, human practices, wiki creation, and part submission. One mentor will advise each of the selected high school and collegiate teams, and mentors will be supported by the mentorship program co-directors and by iGEM HQ.

If you are interested in gaining experience in teaching, giving back to the iGEM community, and expanding your iGEM contact network, apply to be a mentor for iGEM 2017! All mentors must have at least 2 years of experience in iGEM, with preferably one of those years being on an iGEM team (but not required). Potential mentors will be evaluated based on their leadership abilities within their respective teams and their experience in mentoring others within iGEM or in other contexts. Anyone with at least two years of iGEM experience as a participant or team advisor is encouraged to apply.

Additionally, a special mentorship workshop will be held at the iGEM Jamboree where those who participated in the program as well as other jamboree attendees will be invited. We will discuss everyone's experiences so we can make the program even better next year. If you are selected to be a mentor, jamboree attendance is encouraged, but not required. The iGEM Foundation will offer mentors free registration for the day that their team is presenting, and they will also allow admission to the mentorship workshop if it occurs on a day that your team does not present. We hope to see you there!

The first round of applications for mentors is due TBD. This page is still under construction.
