Competition Hub

This page serves as the 2017 Competition Hub. Each section below can be clicked on to bring you to a page with more details for each topic. Each team member, including students, advisors, instructors, and Primary and Secondary PIs, should take the time to read through everything on this page and on the detail pages prior to starting work on their iGEM project.

iGEM 2017 Requirements

Below are the requirements for participating in iGEM 2017. All teams are expected to complete these requirements as members of the 2017 iGEM team community.

Please email us at hq AT igem DOT org with any questions about these requirements.

1. Team Requirements

All iGEM teams must follow the Team Requirements in terms of Team Composition, Team Roles, and Team Sections. These requirements give teams structure and allow teams to compete against each other fairly. For more details about Team Requirements, click here.

6. Positive Contribution

All participants are required to work hard to build positive contributions to society and have lots of fun!

While we know this is a competition, we encourage all teams to come to the Giant Jamboree to celebrate their hard work and share in the joy of iGEM with teams from around the world.

Other Elements of iGEM 2017

Along with the requirements described above, iGEM teams will receive the Distribution Kit as part of our Give and Get philosophy at iGEM. All teams are also strongly encouraged to incorporate Human Practices into their projects and can sign up for the optional InterLab Study. More information on each of these elements can be found below.

Human Practices

iGEM teams creatively engage with important issues "beyond the bench", relating (but not limited) to ethics, sustainability, social justice, safety, security, environmental impact and intellectual property rights. We call this work Human Practices. For details about iGEM's Human Practices, click here.

Distribution Kit

Each iGEM team will receive the 2017 Distribution Kit, which contains over 2,000 DNA Parts, the Competent Cell Test Kit, Linearized Plasmid Backbones, the InterLab Kit, and iGEM pins and stickers. Shipment will begin in April 2017. For more details about the 2017 Distrbution Kit, click here.

InterLab Study

All of the 2017 iGEM teams are invited and encouraged to participate in the Fourth International InterLaboratory Measurement Study in synthetic biology. This is an optional and voluntary exercise for all teams. For more details about iGEM's InterLab, click here..
