Prof. Simmel is an elected member of acatech, Germany's National Academy of Science and Engineering,and Chair of Physics of Synthetic Biological Systems at TUM. His research is focused on the design of biochemical circuits and DNA-based nanostructures and systems, where he has contributed with important advances on the field.
