Guardian of the wheatland A product for the degradation of soil pesticide residues
Safety information
There are two part of our project, the first part is lab risk of our project , the other is environment and market risk of GMO .
Laboratory Safety and Management
Safety Training
To guarantee the safety of our researchers and lab personnel, we emphasized protection while doing experiments related to bacteria, toxic reagents, fire and electricity. All researchers were required to maintain a tidy and clean working area to ensure that no harmful chemicals or traces of bacteria agents are left behind after the experiment.
In our laboratory class, the first things is Safety Training, it is a so important Process for us, all the member were required wear lab coat and gloves before we start the experiment , and we have safety training by Laboratory center once a half years.
According to the Basic training of laboratory, First, we learned the safety level of laboratories and personal protective equipment. Then we learn the chemical Reagent classification and the GMO experiment regulations. For biosafety, we learned biological hazard, including levels of biohazard and instructions of dealing with biological trash.
Safety of project
Our project is use light inducible to construct recombinant gene in E.coli Dh5a, we finish the Microbial experiment in biological cleanroom, it can avoid contaminate effectively, After finished the experiment, removal measures and residues treatment through baking or incineration and other means to destroy.
Daily preventive measures in Laborator
In order to make sure safety of lab and the accuracy of the experimental results, we make 4S- Management. the lab are managed by 4S- Management very well.
Overall, all phases of general laboratory safety addressed the following:
- Personal protective equipment: lab coats and enclosed leather shoes were to be worn at all times, and long hair had to be tied back. When working with corrosives, acids, bases, and alcohols, gloves and safety glasses were also required. Upon leaving the lab, a disinfectant hand-wash had to be used as well.
- Building safety: the location of fire escapes, fire evacuation plans, and First Aid Officers
- Chemical safety: the location and appropriate storage methods of different classes of chemicals e.g. in the fume hood, flammables cabinet, and general chemical store cabinet
- Waste disposal: location of biological safety hazard waste containers, sharps disposal containers, autoclaving methods, and spills kits location/contents
Environment Safety
If our product were to be available in the real world at the conclusion of this project. there would be many biosafety issues associated with it. therefore , we should guarantee that it’s safe to humans and harmless to the environment. To be on the safe side , we plan to design a device, it’s could prevent Living organisms contact Environment directly by a 0.45um filter Membrane, Based on the characteristics of light - induced , there are also have a suicide system be designed, this system could kill host cell in time. so it could avoid biological leakage.
Next step, we plan to conducted preliminary research into using yeast as a host cell. That could use to degrade the Pesticide residue in surface of fruits and vegetables more carefully.
