Safety and Ethics
Creating safe technology is an important requirement when developing a new product. Not only is important to develop safety measures, but is also important to show the society that your work is safe. In this page you can find the following resources:
- Comic: This comic is targeted to the general public, and it aims to inform about the importance to consider the perception of risk, and not only the scientific risk. Furthermore, in a more basic level, it shows that although some genetic modified organism indeed have potential for causing disasters, other ones do not pose the same danger.
- Ethics: This section gathers a personal ethical analysis about the risk perception, transfer of responsibility and the autonomy of patients concerning diagnostics.
- Biosafety: This section gathers information about safety issues concerning our device and synthetic biology in general. One of the aspects that are discussed, is the options considered and the chosen option for a biocontainment mechanism. Besides, risk assessment and safety assessment techniques are proposed, including a Fault Tree Analysis.
- Lab Safety: This sections gathers the different rules that we have followed in our work environment to ensure safe working conditions.
