Our Initiative: A Machine Learning Algorithm for Cell Counting
Cell counting is a task done frequently by nearly all biologists. Manual cell counting can be tedious and there exist various cell counting software to help in the process. We tried to develop our own Machine Learning-based cell counting software, using Artificial Neural Networks. We needed images of cells to train our algorithm. We initiated an all-India iGEM team InterLab collaboration, in which teams across the country helped us in gathering image to form our training dataset. We were not able to achieve the desired results, due to some problems in our model. A detailed description of our efforts is given below.

iGEM India: Mini-Jamboree @ IISER Pune
IISER-Pune held an All India iGEM meetup from July 14th to 16th. iGEM teams from all over the country participated in this mini-Jamboree. All the teams presented their ideas, which was followed by a discussion regarding the presented ideas. The other teams critically analyzed the projects and suggested changes. This meetup was an excellent exposure as we got a feel of how the Jamboree would be, and also we got know about the projects other teams had undertaken. It was also a great platform to setup up more collaborations with other teams.
