<p class="my-content-p"> After we interviewed the specialists who are famous in the fields of food and sweeteners, the current situation of sweeteners was getting clearer in our mind. Generally, most of them have the main shortages that are high calories and bad taste even though they might be very sweet. We want to design a signal conduction pathway bases on the human sweetness receptors and construct the pathway in yeast. However, the most important thing is biological safety. In our project, the laboratorial microorganisms we want to use are routine microorganisms, such as <i>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</i> and Escherichia coli. The sweet receptor protein we want to use is T1R2/T1R3. Both of the hosts and proteins are safe. We also communicated with Dr. Yang about the details  of safety of the project.</p>

Three scientific speeches were made to introduce the development and the common use of sweeteners in our daily life, which contributed to the popularity of iGEM as well as Synthetic Biology. Ultimately, we collected the critical advice from the audiences in time and accepted one of them, which recommended us to use saccharose as the standard sweetener so that the test would be more reasonable.</p>

In our human practice, we want to make a complete exploration process. In this process,we need to enhance and introduce our project to the world,which mainly bases on the following principles:

1. Investigate extensively

In order to realize the value of the project better, we need to listen to more suggestions from the community. As the saying goes: no investigation, no right to speak.

2. Exchange positively

It is not only to show our works to the world, but also to have exchanges with the world. We want to get good feedback.

3. Target the market demand

iGEM is not only a competition, but also a project. So we need to understand people's interests, which will help us target the market demand so as to complete projects successfully.

4. Pioneer the future

It’s essential for us to establish a system of Human Practice, where we can obtain a lot of benefits. In addition, the system can be used by other teams in the future.

5. Educate responsible engineers.

Our human practice focuses on the safety, rationality and the value in the society. At the beginning, we wanted to find problems in the daily life so that we visited a lot of communities and well-known domestic companies to communicate with their staff. We also interviewed some well-known experts and scholars in this area . We got a lot of good feedbacks. The constant human practice has helped us to improve our project efficiently.

COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER UNIVERSITIES

MEDIA CAMPAIGN

In September, we were interviewed by the Propaganda Department of Beijing Institute of Technology, and then we launched a website campaign on the BIT official website of synthetic biology and iGEM. During the interview, we carried out scientific exchanges on the knowledge of sweet substances.

iGEM MEETING

In the late September, in order to popularize synthetic biology and iGEM, we held a preaching meeting about synthetic biology and iGEM for all the students from all faculties in BIT. There were three parts included in the meeting and the first part was to introduce iGEM and synthetic biology to the students. The second one was brainstorm,which let students think about the innovative points and shinning points of our project based on the background. The third part was a free exchange session. Students can communicate with us by asking questions about the project and our team. After this meeting, the innovation of our project was sublimated further.

OPEN-ENDED ACTIVITY

At the 85th anniversary of Beijing Institute of Technology, we were invited to show iGEM and our project to alumni. In our display case, we played some interesting biology games and we told students what the synthetic biology is. Then we introduced our former projects to audiences and they had a good understanding about iGEM through our past competition experiences. Meanwhile, we improved our project through the suggestions given by students. In this open-ended activity, we communicated with more than 3000 people and we got more than 500 suggestions. In the open-ended activity, we select sweet substances as our better inducers.

Conclusion

As a part of our human practice, we went to the ministry of science and technology of The People's Republic of China to talk with Dr. Wei Yang about the safety of our project in detail. In addition, we also communicated with the Chinese experts in the field of food online. We did a great job on the investigation and understanding about biosafety. We believe that no investigation, no right to speak. We organized a conference with students from Beijing University, Lanzhou University and Jilin University to discuss about what we had done. All the human practice could further make our project more reasonable .
