1. Team Wiki
All iGEM 2017 teams are given a namespace on the iGEM 2017 wiki with their team name: 2017.igem.org/Team:Example
Teams are allowed to create and edit pages within their respective team namespace. Teams are not allowed to create or edit pages belonging to another team's namespace.
Due date: June 30, 2017
The team's project description must be documented on their iGEM Team Wiki by the deadline. The project description should be 1-3 paragraphs and only needs to include an up-to-date explanation of the project. This description should be posted on your Team Wiki home page (example URL: https://2017.igem.org/Team:Example).
This description will not be used to judge your project. It serves to provide some background on what your team has been working on so far and what you hope to accomplish. It also provides other teams the opportunity to see what you're working on so they can reach out for collaborations or troubleshooting if they are exploring a similar topic.
Deadline: November 1, 2017 11:59PM EDT
Once the wikis are frozen, users can no longer make any changes until they are unfrozen after the Jamboree. Please be sure to read through the the wiki requirements! No extensions will be provided (no exceptions!) and judges will begin their assessment on November 2, so make sure all changes are done by 11:59PM EDT.
PLEASE NOTE: During week of wiki freeze, iGEM experiences higher than normal traffic which can lead to strain on our servers and sessions timing out for users. iGEM HQ recommends that users do not wait till the last days to work on and/or finish their wikis. Edits done during the final week should be very minor edits (spelling mistakes, updating images, etc.).
Here are the 2017 iGEM Wiki Rules. If you have any questions, please contact us at hq AT igem DOT org.
- Teams cannot edit, disable, hide, or alter the iGEM Login Bar
- Teams must use the Standard Pages on their wiki to be considered for awards and medals
- Teams cannot use Adobe Flash on their wiki
- Teams must host all content on 2017.igem.org
- Teams cannot use iframes on their wiki
- Teams cannot use any Copyrighted materials on their wiki, included images
- Teams cannot alter content after the Wiki Freeze deadline
All iGEM 2017 Team Wikis are required to have the iGEM Login Bar. The Login Bar includes essential links, tools, and information for all users: both wiki creators and viewers. The judges need these tools.
The iGEM Login Bar is a 20 pixel high, full-width menu bar that exists on all 2017.igem.org pages. It contains: iGEM related pages, wiki tools (edit, history, watch, etc.), search tools, team information (not released yet), login, and the site menu. It serves as a quick navigation tool for all users and must be maintained on all of your team wiki pages as a result.
We have created standard pages with static links for all awards and for most medal criteria. If your team wants to be evaluated for an award, you will need to document your achievements related to this award on a standard page.
Please read the details about these Standard Pages here.
Adobe flash is not permitted on team wikis. It's now considered to be an outdated video player and has had many security issues in the past. It's also not open source, which goes against iGEM's goal of making everything in the competition open source.
All team pages, images, documents and code must be hosted on the 2017.igem.org server.
We preserve all iGEM content on our own servers so future teams can learn from what you have done. When you store content on your own sites or servers, after time, links might become broken, sites might go down, and information will be lost.
Additionally, hosting content outside of 2017.iGEM.org allows teams to change/add information to their wiki after the wiki freeze. Please note that altering content after the wiki freeze is a form of cheating.
Bootstrap Note: If you want to use Bootstrap in your wiki, you will need to copy the CSS code from Bootstrap and create Template File on the 2017.igem.org server with that CSS code in order to use Bootstrap in your wiki. You CANNOT use CDN support for your wiki. As this rule explains, all content must be on 2017.igem.org.
iframes are not permitted on the iGEM wiki. See number 4 above.
Copyrighted images and other materials are not permitted on the iGEM wiki. (You may use materials that are appropriately licensed for reuse, such as open-source code or Creative Commons licensed images.)
The Wiki Freeze refers to the deadline when iGEM Headquarters closes access to the editing tools on the team wiki pages. This prevents teams from editing the pages after the Wiki Freeze. This event is incredibly important because it gives our judges plenty of time to review your project and score your team wiki page prior to the Giant Jamboree. Since judges start reviewing iGEM teams once the Wiki's are frozen, this is a very real deadline and no edits will be allowed after the deadline has passed.
The Wiki Freeze for the 2017 Giant Jamboree is on November 1, 11:59PM EDT. Once the wikis are frozen, users can no longer make any changes until they are thawed after the Jamboree. Please note that altering content after the wiki freeze is a form of cheating.
- Important: The week before wiki freeze, iGEM experiences higher than normal traffic which can lead to strain on our servers and sessions timing out for users. iGEM HQ recommends that users do not wait until the last days to work on/finish their wikis.
