Frost resistant tecnology within frost intolerant crops
With an ever-growing world population, having sustainable, reliable crops for food
production is becoming more important than ever. However, every year millions of dollars’ worth of produce is
damaged, lost or never produced as a result of frosts. Frost causes the new tips and buds to be damaged due to the
formation of ice crystals within the tissues, rupturing cells. As a result, new plant and fruit growth are severely
inhibited. Despite promising research into frost resistance mechanisms, the majority of producers still utilise costly,
and often ineffective, traditional methods of frost avoidance.
