To Our Community

We at iGEM Headquarters want to take a moment to remind everyone that we are truly an international and diverse community. We take our values seriously and believe the international aspect of iGEM is a large part of what makes iGEM a success. Like many of you, we have been paying close attention to recent events in the United States and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months. We have begun and will continue to have discussions here at HQ with the focus on making sure all of our teams can participate openly in iGEM. If you have any concerns or suggestions, please send us a message at hq AT igem DOT org.

Sincerely,
iGEM HQ

Judging Applications are Now Open!

The judging application form for iGEM 2017 is now open:

We are looking for talented and enthusiastic people to apply to judge teams at the iGEM 2017 Giant Jamboree. Last year, we had about 150 volunteer judges from many different disciplines, from all over the world to evaluate our 300 teams. We are looking for:
  • Synthetic Biology researchers, from PhD Candidate level to Head of Department
  • Researchers from genetics, molecular biology and other related fields
  • Software, mechanical and electrical engineers
  • STS, Biosafety, Biosecurity and synbio policy experts
  • People from other disciplines, as this is not an exhaustive list

  • If this is your first time application, please pay specific attention to the long form questions, as they carry the most weight in our judge selection process.
You should plan to attend the whole Giant Jamboree in Boston from the 9th - 13th of November 2017. You should plan for about 3 - 5 days to evaluate team wikis, as we want judges to be respectful of the amount of work that iGEM teams put into their projects. Small teams that work hard over the summer can put 4 - 5,000 hours of work into a project. Bigger teams that work for longer could put 10,000+ hours into their iGEM project!
We offer a 50% Jamboree registration discount to judges registered on 2017 teams, and will waive the fee for any judges not associated with any iGEM teams this year. Please note that we do not cover travel accommodation expenses to attend the Jamboree. Please also note that we are considering applicants who are 23 or older on the 31st of March 2017, and any people younger than this age will be considered on a case by case basis.
Thank you and good luck with your application!
Kim de Mora and the iGEM 2017 Executive Judging Committee
