Phosphate Starvation Operon
Achievements:
1. Successful compilation of parameters and ODEs for modelling response of native and recombinant phosphate starvation (PHO) regulon
2. Proved that the regulatory system response is sufficiently fast for fluctuating phosphate level
3. Predicted that the regulatory system is efficient enough to keep microcompartment synthesis to minimal during long period of starvation, as required to be implemented in real world scenario
4. Provided a framework for comparison of future experimental data
Introduction
The synthesis of microcompartments creates a massive metabolic burden that makes the bacteria “sick” and is very detrimental to cell growth, as observed during our experimental work. This would ultimately interfere with the real-life implementation of our bacteria in a continuous culture system.
