MODELLING
Continuous culture modelling allowed us to estimate the yearly cost of treating wastewater using Phosphostore leading us to perform a major re-design of our device. We used an ensemble modelling approach to predict the operating characteristics of our phosphate starvation operon as a regulatory system for controlling BMC synthesis. We also used Design of Experiments to identify the optimal conditions for PPK expression and optimum conditions for BMC expression.
ENTERPRISE
Our integrated business plan was shaped by interactions with experts in the water industry. We considered international markets for Phosphostore, beyond the local water industry, which helped us focus on Canadian wastewater treatment plants as a promising target. Our competitor analysis informed us on current phosphate removal technologies and potential roadblocks. Our company plan was shaped by exploratory research on scaling-up, which guided our modelling to estimate production costs and economic feasibility.
