Team Introduction
We are NCTU_Formosa iGEM team. Our team consists of 16 students with a diversity of major departments in National Chiao-Tung University, including the department of Biological Science and Technology, Material Science and Engineering, Nano Science and Engineering as well as Electronics Engineering. Each of us made good use of our specialized knowledge, we shared opinion and did brainstorming together, and gain new multifaceted abilities during these days. NCTU_Formosa! Go! Fight! And Win our glory!!
Team Leader
I’m Francis, the team leader of 2017 NCTU_Formosa and a student majoring in Material Science and Engineering. From a childish kid who didn’t even hear of iGEM to the leader of NCTU_Formosa, I learned lots of things. Learning technical skills for experiments, sharing our ideas, and making plenty of friends with different countries and cultures will all be my treasurable memories. Thanks to everybody who have helped me on our road to Boston. See you soon in the Giant Jamboree!
Vice Team Leader
Hello, I’m CHENG-HUNG WU, the vice team leader of NCTU_Formosa and I major in Nano Science and Engineering. I’m very glad to be in the big family of NCTU_Formosa. It’s my pleasure to learn and work with our team members and fight for the goals together. I hope we can all have fun during the process, and do our best and enjoy the competition. Thanks a lot for giving me such a chance to broaden my horizon and letting the world to know how amazing NCTU_Formosa is.
Hi, I am Tein-Yu Chang, a student major in Biological Science and Technology. Although I am a student studying biology, I learn programming and working on the construction of our database, the predicting model and also the IoT predicting system. I’m very glad to join iGEM this year and learn good ideas all over the world.
I am Ferng-Chang Chang, a student major in Biological Science and Technology. We received a lot of help from professors and researchers working in the field of agriculture. Their passion for solving agricultural problems influenced me a lot. I hope our project can somehow help people solve some fungal diseases.
Hello, I am Peng-Tzu, majoring in Biological Science and Technology at National Chiao Tung University. I’m the leader of the wet lab experiment in 2017 NCTU_Formosa. I got a lot of knowledge about this because of iGEM. Wish I can broaden my horizon in the Giant Jamboree.
Hi, I'm Terrence and I major in Electronics Engineering. I like biology and it inspires me to learn more. For me, joining iGEM is a wonderful chance to experience the unknown field I had never tried. Hello, I’m Tiffany. I’m a junior majoring in Nano Science and Technology. Being an iGEMer is busy but also full and interesting. In the past year, I am lucky to experience many ‘first time’ in my life, the first time to attend a big competition, to make contact with all kinds of people in different departments, and to fulfill our own ideas with the precious teamwork. The days we’ve been through is like a journey of maturation to me. Thanks to all the team members, instructors, and advisors to make NCTU_Formosa perfect and unreplaceable. Hi, I’m Chun-Wei Liang, you can just call me Alan. I’m now a junior and major in Nano Science and Engineering. I am interested in iGEM since I was a freshman, this year I finally join a project with our teammates and get the chance to the Giant Jamboree. I always think that biology is a fascinating field and I love it, iGEM gives us an opportunity to show people all over the world how amazing and powerful biology is. Apart from biology, I’m looking forward to meeting people from different countries, there will be too many ideas that could be shared, and I hope to know a lot of people in Boston and make friends with you!

Hello! I’m Jung-Yu Liu from NCTU_Formasa. I major in Biological Science and Technology. Stunning by the multifunction of DNA is the reason why I decided to participate in the competition. During the time preparing for iGEM, I had a great time with my teammates and learned a lot of things. Not only about experiment skills but also know how to organize an event, work with others, and make friends that are also interested in synthetic biology all over the world. Hello, I’m Kai-Hsiang Su. I major in biological science and technology. The first time I heard igem, I think it should be fun, and then I decided to join. I am mainly responsible for art design in the team, occasionally doing DNA cloning. In this year, I not only learn the knowledge of synthetic biology but also contact with biological information, plant pathology, etc. The most important thing is, I learn the team operation, self-learning ability, as well as the attitude and method of doing things. Hello everyone, I am Chen-Chuan, Wu, you can also call me Bibi. I am a freshman majoring in Biological Science and Technology. I feel lucky and excited to join NCTU_Formosa team. This year, I learned many knowledge that we do not learn in textbook and did some cool experiment that will certainly become unforgettable memories in my life. I am glad to have such great teammates to work with and make friends with people around the world through joining iGEM.Joining iGEM really gives me a golden chance to breakthrough myself. Hi, I am Jonathan (Yi-Ting Lin). I am a 17-year-old student of The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University (HSNU). I am glad that I can participate in iGEM activities again. Last year, I was very impressed by many innovative projects presented in the Giant Jamboree. I enjoyed surfing creative wiki sites and watching interesting presentations. I learned a lot from the posters and the critical issues pointed out by judges. I appreciate such a great scientific activity that inspires me and enriches my life.
Hi, I'm Jessica. I'm now a 16-year-old high school student, studying in HSNU. I enjoy discovering new application of synthetic biology. It's my second time to join iGEM, and I'm so glad to be a part of it again. I like diving, writing, reading novels, and playing table tennis. What I like to do the most is to go back to my hometown and play with my two adorable dogs!
Hi, I'm Jim. I'm a 17-year- old high school student, studying in HSNU. It's my first time to join iGEM, so I am very excited to discover some novel application of synthetic biology. Also, I want to know more about the creative ideas from other schools to expand my horizon. I love playing the piano and I like several sports including skiing, table tennis, and basketball.
Instructors
Dr. Chen is now an Associate Professor at the Department of Biological Science and Technology in National Chiao Tung University. He's interested in the genetic network, synthetic biology and cancer biology.
Professor Hsiao-Ching Lee received the B.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from the Department of Life Science at National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. in 1999 and 2005 respectively. From 2005 to 2007, she worked as a postdoctoral research position at NTHU. She is now an Assistant Professor with the Department of Biological Science and Technology at National Chiao Tung University. Her current research interests include molecular biology, synthetic biology, and bioinformatics.
Dr. Huang is a Professor and the current Chairman of Department of Biological Science & Technology, also the Chairman of Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology of National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan R.O.C. His current researches include microRNA regulation, protein post-translational modification databases building, and dry- lab tools development.
Professor Shinn-Ying Ho received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and information engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1984, 1986, and 1992, respectively. He is currently a professor in the Department of Biological Science and Technology and Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, and the Director of Institute of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (from 2013) at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan.

Hello, I am Penny Wu. I am a senior student and major in biotechnology in NCTU. As the leader of NCTU_Formosa in 2016, it is the great passion of all team members that makes me feel always excited and energetic! That’s also why I stay in the team as an advisor. Hello, I’m Sean Lee. I major in Biological Science and Technology. The reason why I plan to participate in the competition is that I want to make a difference in the world and broaden my horizons. I am honored to become a member of NCTU_Formosa. Fascinated by the power of DNA and synthetic biology, I believe that we biologist may apply the knowledge learned to solve the existing problem in the modern society and environments.
