Ignis Fly

The occurrence of Aedes aegypti, Culex quinquefasciatus, and mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles potentiate the spread of several diseases, such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, urban yellow fever, filariasis, and malaria, a situation currently existing in Brazil and in Latin America. Mosquitoes caused about 725,000 death/year because of malaria.
It is reported that pharmacological manipulation of dopamine could alter their sexual behavior. We want to regulate and control ple with the help of some temperature-sensitive promoter so that in summer, when the most pest thrived, the gene ple will express and then male–male Courtship behavior appears, which may decrease the number of pest.
This method has three advantage. Firstly it cause less impact on the ecosystem. Secondly it is heritable and continuable. finally it activated in summer, When pests thrived.
We use Drosophila melanogaster as model organism because it belongs to diptera, the same as Mosquitoes. And there are many sophisticated ways to regulate its expression of gene. We use UAS/GAL4 system, a very common methods, to regulate ple.

  • Make sure information is easy to find; nothing should be more than 3 clicks away.
  • Avoid using very small fonts and low contrast colors; information should be easy to read.
  • Start documenting your project as early as possible; don’t leave anything to the last minute before the Wiki Freeze. For a complete list of deadlines visit the iGEM 2017 calendar
  • Have lots of fun!

Uploading pictures and files

You can upload your pictures and files to the iGEM 2017 server. Remember to keep all your pictures and files within your team's namespace or at least include your team's name in the file name.
When you upload, set the "Destination Filename" to
T--YourOfficialTeamName--NameOfFile.jpg. (If you don't do this, someone else might upload a different file with the same "Destination Filename", and your file would be erased!)
